In modern
& progressive organization like Metro Railway Kolkata
the job of material management is vested in the Stores
Department under the Controller Of Stores directly responsible
to the General Manager. The department has to ensure
satisfactory availability of semi finished & finished
components, consumables, General Stores, machinery &
plants and spares for production, construction, operational
& maintenance requirement of Metro Railway. Since
the requirement of spares for Metro Railway rolling
stock is unique there is a greater scope for development
of sources. |

quarter Stores Organization is located at the fifth
(5th) floor , Metro Rail Bhawan 33/1, J.L.N. Road (Near
to Park Street Metro Rail way Station) Kolkata-700071,

. The organization is divided into two areas like Operation
& Maintenance wing and Construction wing. Each wing
is working under the control of DYCMM assisted by their
respective SMMs & AMMs. |

is located near Dum-Dum Metro Railway Station in Noapara
Metro Railway Car Shed. It deals with the all kinds
of spares, Raw materials required for the operation
& maintenance of BHEL & NGEF types Metro Railway
rakes , Steel items & Scrap disposal.SMM/

steel plates, sheets, & TMT bars & Scrap disposal

The procurement
process goes on throughout the year as per the procurement
calendar which specifies category wise item for which
procurement action is to be initiated.
The procurement is done through advertised tenders in
India. As per policy preference is given to items manufactured
& sold in India, Second preference is given to imported
items or items made from imported raw materials if available
in India through authorized stockiest & third preference
to pure import which is rarely resorted to. For all
the procurements powers to buy are delegated rank wise
